Special Needs Classes

The Rose offers several classes for children with special needs.

Children who are deaf or hard of hearing
Drama classes for children who are deaf or hard of hearing are generally offered in the spring (March-May) on Saturday mornings. Click here to register or contact Education Coordinator Deprecia Wright at (402) 502-4617.

Families with children who have Down syndrome are encouraged to contact Brian Guehring for the best class fit.

Children with Visual Impairments
Students with visual impairments can choose to take part in a free touch tour of The Rose main stage before attending the performance.

Children with Sensory Processing, Developmental Delay or Autism Spectrum Disorder

    Exploring Color
    This class will explore color in all of its forms and varieties! We’ll use our acting tools to explore the different moods, emotions, and objects associated with all the colors of the rainbow. We’ll also expand on the ideas and themes of the show A Palette of Possibility to tell our own stories of these colors and all the places they are found!

    Green Screen Adventures
    Lights, camera, ACTION!  Wonder what life looks like through the lens of the camera? Come and create short videos that explore the limits of your imagination.  You will have the opportunity to work on a production team to use video and special effects to brainstorm, storyboard and develop these ideas for the screen.

  • WINTER DRAMA CLASSES for CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDSGrades K-6

    Create Your Own Play: Robots Among Us
    Beep- beep-bo-bop.  Students will use role drama techniques to explore artificial intelligence. Students will design robots and devise stories about what life would be like if we all had robots.

    Star Wars: The Force Awakens
    Create your own Jedi Knight character and take Jedi Academy courses on using The Force, light saber techniques and more! Will you be ready for the next attack by The Dark Side? This is your chance to find out!

    Dance/Musical Theater
    Want to sing, dance, and tell a story like your favorite musical stars? Ever feel the need to burst into song or dance? We will learn songs and dances from famous musicals, all culminating in a final performance on the mainstage in May.
