Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type

March 30 – April 15, 2012

Farmer Brown is a grumpy man. Cows make milk. Chickens make eggs. These are the commodities that he has come to expect. But the cows are cold and so are the chickens. Using a typewriter the cows found in the barn, both are demanding electric blankets. Going on strike, they force Farmer Brownʼs hand in a surprise tit for tat that – oops – leaves the ducks with a demand of their own!

  • From the Director

The combination of cows and typewriters is ridiculous. Could this silliness possibly be relevant to young audiences?  The answer is, “Yes!” When educators seek out curricular ties in the area of social studies (especially when they get to the “Growth of a Nation” units), they need to find ways to address the multiple intelligences of their pupils. Using images, sounds, music and movement, students can assimilate information in ways that reduce learning time by months. Click, Clack, Moo takes these elements and presents them in a way that is enjoyable for every member of the family.

Music styles that range from the swing era to 50s pop, farm animals in Sherri Geerdes’ original costume designs, and awesome performances from the performers here at The Rose ensure that this show will have something for everyone! Every day in rehearsals I found a new favorite moment in the show.

So it may be years before some of the audience members learn about Cesar Chavez and Delores Huerta fighting for workers’ rights. When they do, I hope a little image of a farm animal pops up in their heads and helps them through the material with a smile and a “Click, clack, moo!”
