Ushers for School Performances

See the excitement on a child’s face when they arrive for a school field trip!
School performance ushers are needed Tuesday through Friday for shows beginning at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm. As an usher, you are asked to arrive 45 minutes prior to the show in order to assist students and teachers as they arrive. You will be given a “map” of the theater, and your job will be to direct each school group to their designated seating area. From there, ushers need to remain visible in order to help answer questions. If seating is available, you are welcome to sit for the show; however, you must be seated or situated near a key exit point and be knowledgeable in The Rose’s emergency procedures. Most shows are one hour in length. For every performance you volunteer, you will receive two vouchers that may be redeemed within a year for show tickets. Volunteers should be 16 years of age. An adult must accompany volunteers under the age of 16. For more information, please contact Amy Kavan, The Rose’s Volunteer Coordinator, at amyk@rosetheater.org.

Light Board Operator

Let there be light!
The light board operator is an essential member of the technical production staff.  As a volunteer in this position, you will be responsible for controlling the computerized stage lighting system during the technical rehearsals and show performances.  Prior to each show, you will be asked to check the status of the lighting equipment. No prior training or experience is necessary for this uniquely important behind-the-scenes position, but those interested in learning more about technical theater will find this job an exciting introduction to backstage work.  Generally, you must be 16 years of age or older to volunteer for this position.  For more information, please contact Mike Arch, The Rose’s Lighting Designer, at mikea@rosetheater.org

Spotlight Operators

What about the spots?
Spotlight operators are essential when The Rose presents a musical or ballet, and a volunteer is this position will run the spotlight that highlights the principal performer(s) as they sing or dance.  This job is more challenging than running the light board, but it offers a great look into the backstage world of technical theater.  No prior training or experience is necessary.  It does help to be comfortable with heights, given the catwalk is located high above the main stage auditorium.  Generally, you must be 16 years of age or older to volunteer for this position.  You may be required to attend the week before the performance for practice. For more information, please contact Mike Arch, The Rose’s Lighting Designer, at mikea@rosetheater.org.
