Last Stop on Market Street

Winner of the 2016 Newbery Medal

By Matt de la Peña. Illustrated by Christian Robinson.

Adapted by Gloria Bond Clunie.

World Premiere Produced by Children’s Theatre of Charlotte, November 2018. Adam Burke, Artistic Director.

Curious, energetic and talkative CJ spends his Sundays with his Nana, who moves through the busy bustle of the big city at a decidedly different drumbeat. After the Reverend at Nana’s church challenges CJ to “see with more than eyes,” he starts to discover that there’s more to witness on their weekly bus trip down the city’s main thoroughfare than he ever realized before. With colorful characters and big-city beats, CJ gains new perspective on his neighbors as they travel to the “Last Stop on Market Street.” And your young theatergoers will, too.
